Institutional Stakeholders
Ponte di Messina
The institutional stakeholders represent the promoters and guarantors of the Messina Bridge project. Ministries, public bodies, and supervisory authorities ensure expertise, political and strategic guidance, transparency, and sustainability, supporting the Concessionaire at every stage. They are the key institutions of the Italian State that strongly advocated for the Bridge’s realization and today coordinate and guide its governance and vision.

MIT – Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport
The MIT is the main authority for the Bridge’s governance. Through its Technical Mission Structure, it ensures strategic direction, oversight, and coordination among all stakeholders. It guarantees proper execution of the project and compliance with timelines and regulations.

MEF – Ministry of Economy and Finance
The MEF ensures the project’s financial sustainability, supervising the use of public funds and financing models. In coordination with the MIT, it contributes to strategic decisions of the concessionaire, ensuring the work meets criteria of economic soundness and transparency.

MASE – Ministry of Environment and Energy Security
MASE oversees environmental and energy safety aspects related to the Bridge. It manages environmental impact assessments, promotes sustainable solutions, and ensures consistency with national and EU environmental protection and green transition goals.

Calabria Region
As one of the territories directly involved, the Calabria Region provides institutional and authorization support while promoting the economic, social, and employment impacts of the project. It contributes to integrated development in infrastructure, tourism, and local businesses.

Sicily Region
The Sicily Region is the territory most directly affected by the project. It provides institutional and authorization support and enhances the major economic, social, and employment benefits generated by the Bridge, fostering integrated development in infrastructure, tourism, and local enterprises.

EU / EIB – European Union and European Investment Bank
The EU and the EIB may contribute through co-financing instruments and dedicated funds for large strategic infrastructure. Their involvement provides not only financial resources but also recognition of the Messina Bridge as a European project of common interest, strengthening Italy’s role in the Mediterranean.
